Andrea C. Bates believes she can make a difference in her community, and she finds herself doing that right at home in the north country.

“It has always been home,” she said. “This is a good place to be, and a good place to have friends.”

Actually, Jefferson County became her home when she was 12, when her divorced mother, Kathy Danielson, brought her south from Canada. And while her life was with Mrs. Danielson until she was married in 2005, she recognizes her father, Vic Pfeiffer in Toronto, as the biggest influence in her life.

“He has always reminded me that if you always work hard, things will come together for you. You just have to put your mind to it.”

Despite the miles that separate them, “we are very close.”

Hard work is her ethic, she said, and drawing off the knowledge and experience of others is her guide to success.
