Watertown Legislator Carolyn Fitzpatrick wins 25th Athena Award

WATERTOWN — Jefferson County Board of Legislators Chairwoman Carolyn D. Fitzpatrick was announced Thursday morning as the 25th Athena Award recipient.

The Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce held a press conference on Thursday morning in the lobby of the Fairfield Inn and Suites, 250 Commerce Park Drive. to announce the honoring of Mrs. Fitzpatrick, Watertown.

The Athena Award is presented annually to an individual “who is recognized for professional excellence, for providing valuable service to their community and for actively assisting women in realizing their full leadership potential,” according to a chamber release.

Last year’s recipient was Erika F. Flint, executive director of the Watertown Urban Mission.

This year’s recipient will be presented the award at a formal dinner hosted by the chamber Sept. 10 at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel, 200 Riverside Drive, Clayton.

The internationally prestigious Athena Award was first presented in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan. To date there have been over 5,000 recipients in over 500 communities in the United States as well as Canada, China, Russia, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
