COR Development dropped Carthage apartment plan due to poor market study

Plans for a 364-unit apartment complex in West Carthage were scrapped in January because a market study commissioned by COR Development Co. created serious concerns for financiers, according to COR General Manager Steven F. Aiello.

“We would have been pleased to have done the project there, but the market study didn’t support it. There were financial challenges getting the project built there,” Mr. Aiello said. “We have an obligation to the state to make sure the project had the best opportunity to be successful.” [Read more…]

West Carthage Family Dollar store to relocate

WEST CARTHAGE — After months of going through the planning stages, the name of the discount retail store for North Broad Street has been revealed.

In a news release Wednesday, it was announced Family Dollar will move its store from Price Chopper Plaza on High Street to a new building at 21 N. Broad St., adjacent to Paul L. Vanier’s Chiropractic Office.

The 9,180-square-foot building will be leased through Michael E. Lundy and Kent Burto of Northern Developers LLC.

According to the company, construction of the store by Mr. Lundy’s Lunco Corp. will begin as soon as plans and permits are final. Northern Developers will lease the building to Family Dollar long term. The new location is planned to be open by September.

“Family Dollar is thrilled to be the first store in this new shopping center, and we look forward to offering shoppers our everyday value and convenience at this new location,” said Howard Levine, chairman and chief executive officer of Family Dollar.

The new location will provide more space for merchandise.
