Servers, restaurateurs react to wage hike for tipped workers

WATERTOWN — Servers in New York restaurants will get a raise from $5 to $7.50 an hour at the end of this year — news Shelly A. Dewees, a waitress at Shuler’s Restaurant on Mill Street, has waited on for a long time.

“It will be tough for restaurants, because they cut hours a lot of the time. But it needs to happen because it’s been $5 for a long time,” she said Tuesday.

The tipped-wage increase will take effect Dec. 31. [Read more…]
